Can I move my sims 4 game to an external hard drive?
@cosmoblivion Yes, you can install Sims 4 on the external hard drive just as you described. You may also be able to simply instruct Origin to move the game files to the external: right-click on the Sims 4 icon, select Move Game, and pick the folder you want to use.
The answer is yes you can install and play games on a portable hard disk drive but there are a few downsides. 1. The speed of the hard disk drive - some portable hdds are only 5200rpm which means they don't load as fast as a normal internal computer hdd, most internal drives now are 7200rpm standard.
Any app will load much faster on an SSD than an HDD, although live play (between loading screens) will be the same on any kind of drive. The only good reason to get a large HDD is that it's so much cheaper than an equivalent SSD, and some people need the storage. But if you don't, you can skip it.
Please remember if you install Sims 4 on the external drive, you need to make space for the Sims 4 folder (found Documents > Electronic Arts > Sims 4) as this is where the game always looks for your saved games. Saved games cannot be stored on the external drive in order to play. You can make a backup copy sure.
These are the requirements for The Sims 4 base game, no expansions included. Hard drive (free space): At least 25 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games.
Under the “Manage Storage” box, highlight your internal drive and select “Transfer”. Check each game you want to transfer over or “Select All” for a full migration. Click “Copy” or “Move Selected”. Confirm the external hard drive you want to transfer to, and that's it!
Project Rene, AKA The Sims 5, is so early in development that there's no release date yet. We wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't hit stores until 2024, to be honest.

Re: Sims 4 download to SD Card? this does work I did it bc my computer didn't have enough memory to download the game so I got a sd card downloaded it. its works pretty good.
Hard drive (free space): At least 50 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games.
Is 256gb enough for Sims 4?
256 GB is plenty for Sims 4, your saves and other content, and a few small apps like browsers, but it might not be enough if you also want to store large collections of data (photos, music, etc.) on the laptop.
SSDs work without moving parts, giving them an advantage over HDDs. Games launch and levels load faster when installed on an SSD. SSDs provide a smoother experience in games that stream assets from storage.

The answer really is: it depends. It depends on your system, and its form factor and interface. While the latest external SSDs have incredible write speeds, they cannot reach those speeds using older connections such as USB-A. Likewise, drive speeds are directly affected by the interface.
SSDs are known for providing internal storage within a laptop or computer. But did you know SSDs can also be used as external storage? External storage is an easy and portable way to store all your files.
And overall, the performance of external SSDs has improved a lot in the past years. Some even support 2GB/s of raw bandwidth, so you can transfer huge game files in minutes rather than spending hours.
That's right, The Sims 4 becomes free for anyone who wants to try it and get it. And when we get it, it will be forever, of course. Although it is only and exclusively the base game (without any kind of expansion or downloadable content), a free horse...
Sims 4 System Requirements FAQ
4GB RAM is the minimum Sims 4 system requirements. Nowadays most people use 8GB RAM on their PC. So if you want to make sure that the game Sims 4 can run smoothly on your PC, 8GB RAM is recommended.
The Sims 4 will go free-to-play on 18th October 2022, EA has confirmed. (Of course, all of its many expansions will continue to be sold separately). From that date onwards, the game will be freely available to download "to all new players" on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Mac and PC.
In your PS4's Settings, select Storage. If you want to transfer content to an extended storage device, select System Storage. If you want to transfer content to your PS4's system storage, select Extended Storage.
Create a folder on the external, called whatever you want. Open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Move Game, then choose the folder you created. Origin will do the rest, but it's still a good idea to repair (in the same right-click menu) when it's done.
Is Sims 4 The last one?
The Sims 5 has been confirmed by EA, codenamed 'Project Rene'. The next generation of the life sim series follows on from the base game of The Sims 4 going free-to-play, and is in development now.
The Sims 5 potential release date: When is it coming out? While Project Rene has been officially unveiled, the release of the fifth core Sims game is still a while off, maybe as late as sometime in 2025.
During the Behind the Sims Summit, Maxis stated Project Rene is still extremely early in development. As such, it seems highly unlikely a full-version of the game will be released anytime before 2024.
Keep your external hard drive in a cool room with temperatures that are appropriate for its model. If you unsure what that temperature is, contact the manufacturer for appropriate storage information. Never store your hard drive in a hot attic, closet, or garage.
The answer is No. It doesn't wear and tear on the computer. There is no damage that is going to happen.
No. That is because once the game loads it copies its contents from HDD to RAM assuming that game data on HDD isn't corrupted. If it is corrupted you wouldn't be able to run the game all.
Re: Is 8GB enough for Sims 4? Minimum is 2Gb. 8Gb is more than enough and will be handy to have for other games.
Re: how to put sims 4 onto a usb
Open Origin and make sure you are logged in, hover over your name in the bottom left corner and then select Application Settings from the pop up menu. Click on Installs & Saves and you will see the installation file path under Game library location. Change this to your USB.
- On your device, swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Tap the notification SD card detected.
- To set up your SD card for: Portable storage, select Format. Adoptable storage, select Format another way.
- Once your SD card is formatted, you can choose to Move content or Move content later.
For gamers, 64GB is certainly overkill: 16GB will be fine for new title releases in the near future. It's what else is on your PC hoovering up the memory that might require it. Browsers can eat up several gigs, particularly if you have a bunch of tabs open and extensions loaded.
Is 16GB RAM good for Sims 4?
You must notice that many game providers (like SIMS 4 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare) recommend game players to better have 8GB or 16GB of RAM memory to run their games.
64GB: enough for basic use. 128GB: enough for the average user. 256GB: store photos, videos, series, and music offline.
Recording Quality | 32GB | 256GB |
---|---|---|
Low: 640×360 10 fps | 7 days | 59 days |
Medium (default): 1280×720 10 fps | 4 days | 29 days |
High: 1920×1080 15 fps | 2 days | 15 days |
Max: 1920×1080 30 fps | 1 days | 10 days |
Plus, with a 256GB drive you could have 10 to 20 games installed at once, but you can always uninstall the ones you are done with if you need more space. I would recommend a 1 TB SSD minimum. I have that and I am already down to 650 GB just from a handful of games.
For everyday activities — browsing the web, managing emails, or working with an office suite — 8GB is perfectly adequate. But once you need more, or you're working with several apps running simultaneously, for example, on multiple displays, it's better to pay extra simply.
Yes, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD is enough for gaming. However, while many games state that they can be smoothly run with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD, this is not always the case.
Solid state drives (SSDs) can help to reduce or eliminate latency, improving overall gameplay and performance.
Games that are installed on your SSD will load quicker than they will if they were installed on your HDD. And, so, there is an advantage to installing your games on your SSD instead of on your HDD. So, as long as you have enough storage space available, it definitely makes sense to install your games on an SSD.

Re: Getting The Sims 4 to save to a micro sd card.
It may be possible but I wouldn't recommend. You can set the path to install in Origin but if you get a different drive letter next time you put it in, the game won't play. External hard drives have the same issue though. Depending on the speed, it might also be slow.
How do I move my sims 4 game to an external hard drive on a Mac?
- Go to Origin advanced settings, on Installation Path select the new path you want The Sims 4 to be installed.
- Uninstall The Sims 4 (right click on The Sims 4 cover in Origin > Uninstall)
- Reinstall the game again, it'll reinstall on the new path.
The game can be installed in any computer through Origin, and can be played in any computer as long as they aren't using the same Origin account at once (this may apply to computers online only). The only thing that won't transfer is the save file, you may need to search it manually and copy it to the new computer.
Create a folder on the external, called whatever you want. Open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Move Game, then choose the folder you created. Origin will do the rest, but it's still a good idea to repair (in the same right-click menu) when it's done.

How to install The Sims 4 base game using Origin:
- Launch the Origin client. ...
- Click the My Games tab.
- If you've already purchased the game, it will display as its own game tile.
Solid state drives are better for gaming because everything loads so much faster on an SSD. Sims 4 runs just fine on a mechanical drive, but it takes longer to load, so it's more convenient to have it installed on the SSD.
Dual SIM card and micro SD adapter This hybrid SIM slot adapter lets you insert your micro SD card and up to 2 SIM cards simultaneously. Both the SIM cards can work at the same time.
Yes you can. However data transmission to external disks tend to be slower than when disks are connected directly to the computer so the game may perform slowly.
Here are quick steps on how to successfully install your game to an external drive: 1. In System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy click on Full Disk Access and add Origin if necessary.
- Go to My Documents.
- Open the Electronic Arts folder.
- Find The Sims 4 folder.
- Right-click on it and choose Copy.
- Go to your Desktop.
- Right-click on a free space and choose Paste.
- Right-click on the copied folder and choose Rename.
You won't loose game progress, game saves or your custom content. Before you uninstall/reinstall, just back up your Sims 4 folder to the desktop and all your Sims 4 files should be fine.
How do I move Origin games to another computer without Redownloading?
- Launch Origin client and go to "My Game Library". ...
- Right-click the game you wish to move to another drive, then click "Move Game".
- In the pop-up window, you can select a new folder where you want to install the game.
The Sims 4 is available for Windows and macOS, as well as PlayStation and Xbox. You can purchase, download, and install The Sims 4 using the EA app or Origin app on PC and Mac.
