What's the highest speed limit in Australia?
When setting maximum speed limits, most states and territories in Australia follow the model national road rules. Under these rules: Posted speed limits are capped at 110km/h. Where there is a no speed limit posted, default speed limits are 50km/h in built-up areas, and 100km/h in rural areas.
There are no police patrolling the majority of this remote highway and until the end of 2006 there was no speed limit outside towns and other built-up areas on the Northern Territory part. The unrestricted limit has now been generally set at 130 kilometres per hour (80 mph).
The first numeric speed limit for automobiles was the 10 mph (16 km/h) limit introduced in the United Kingdom in 1861. As of 2018 the highest posted speed limit in the world is 160 km/h (99 mph), applied on two motorways in the UAE.
The highest speed limit in the country is 85 mph (137 km/h), which is posted on a single stretch of tollway in exurban areas outside Austin, Texas. The lowest maximum speed limit in the country is 30 miles per hour (48 km/h) in American Samoa.
This means that the police are lawfully allowed to speed, drive through red lights and do other acts which would ordinarily be a traffic offence. They can also use mobile phones while driving and not wear a seat-belt. Importantly, however, they can only drive like this if they are performing their duties.
More than a year after opening, the roadway has no posted speed limits. But that doesn't mean drivers can drive as fast as they want. AUSTIN, Texas — The new US 183 South toll road runs from U.S. 290 East to Texas 71 near the Austin airport.
Germany is the only wealthy country in the world without a general speed limit. A drunk at a bar might tell you that German highways are particularly safe. But you don't need to know much about physics to understand that a car moving twice as fast is going to have a lot more kinetic energy.
In Australia, all toll roads are electronically tolled. There are no cash toll booths. If you use a toll road, you are responsible for paying the toll road fee. You can easily do so by registering for a pass within 3 days of travelling on the toll road.
70–90 km/h (43–56 mph) on rural two-lane roads. 90 km/h (56 mph) on two-lane highways. 90–100 km/h (56–62 mph) on major highways inside cities. 100 km/h (62 mph) on major highways leaving or approaching towns or cities.
General speed limits in Russia
For motorcycles and cars under 3.5 tonnes, the limits are generally 60km/h in built-up areas, 90km/h on highways and 110km/h on expressways and other roads. Larger vehicles and those with trailers, however, can only drive at up to 90km/h on expressways and 70km/h on other roads.
Is there a 90 mph speed limit in the US?
The highest speed limits are generally 70 mph (113 km/h) on the West Coast and the inland eastern states, 75–80 mph (121–129 km/h) in inland western states, along with Arkansas, Louisiana, Maine, and Michigan; and 65–70 mph (105–113 km/h) on the Eastern Seaboard.
Most Australian states and territories (the exception being the Northern Territory) allow visiting drivers to drive indefinitely on their overseas licence as long as it is current.

Traffic rules
Legal speed limits in Japan are “60km/h on normal roads” and “100km/h on expressways.” It is prohibited to drive a car at the speed exceeding the legal limit even if there is no traffic sign for speed regulation.
The law sets the maximum at 70 mph, but allows the Texas Transportation Commission to establish a maximum speed limit of 75 mph, or 80 mph or 85 mph if the highway is designed to accommodate that speed on the highway system if that speed is determined to be safe and reasonable after a traffic or engineering study.
In most provinces and territories, statutory speed limits are 50 km/h (31 mph) in urban areas, 80 km/h (50 mph) in rural areas. There is no statutory speed limit for grade-separated freeways; however the typical speed limit in most provinces is 100 km/h (62 mph) or 110 km/h (68 mph).
The German government recommends a maximum speed of 130 kph, so about 80 mph per hour on autobahns, but drivers are free to go as fast as they want in de-restricted sections of the autobahns. Yes, as fast as you want!
This duty will see police officers travel at speed well in excess of the posted limits and officers need to be reminded that the maximum permissible speed allowed during an intercept is 140 km/h.
For serious speeding offences, you may have your licence suspended or disqualified for a period of time. NSW Police can issue a licence suspension at the roadside if you are caught speeding by more than 45km/h over the speed limit.
Extreme speed is classed as 55km/h or more above the limit in a 60 or less zone, or 80km/h or more above the limit in a zone marked 60 and above. Police will be able to immediately disqualify the licences of drivers and those convicted will face penalties of up to three years jail from Monday.
Why does Germany have no speed limit?
In December 1952 the West German legislature voted to abolish all speed limits, reverting to State-level decisions. However, rising traffic fatalities led to a partial reversal: an urban speed limit of 50 km/h (31 mph) became effective 1 September 1957, despite resistance by the German Auto Club.
Autobahn, Germany
A road without speed limits might sound like an accident waiting to happen, but the autobahn is among the safest highway networks in the world. That's mainly due to a handful of stringent safety rules, as well as the presence of the autobahnpolizei – the autobahn's dedicated police force.
Did you know that Washington, D.C. has the lowest speed limit in the USA at just 55mph, while Texas has the highest speed limit at a brisk 85mph? In the eastern part of the U.S., the maximum speed is 70mph, while it is 75mph in the western part. Drivers can be fined 150 dollars for exceeding the speed limit to 10mph.
Speed limits
up to 70 km/h (43 mph) on city roads where there is a major road with central reservation or two yellow lines or 80 km/h (50 mph) on China National Highways; 100 km/h (62 mph) on city express roads; 120 km/h (75 mph) on expressways.
While speed limits are between 25-40km/h (15-25mph) on residential roads, Dubai also has some of the highest speed limits of anywhere in the world. Both the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain (E22) and Sheikh Zayed (E11) highways have limits of up to 100km/h (62mph)2.
For those of you stressing out about your speeding ticket, it could be worse. The fastest known speeding ticket was issued in May 2003 in Texas. The driver was operating a Koenigseggs CCR, a super sports car made in Sweden, and was allegedly going 242 mph (389 km/hr) in a 75 mph zone.
The short answer is no, it's not illegal to drive barefoot in Australia. However, there are other reasons not to drive barefoot. You simply don't get as much contact with the pedals as you do with well fitted shoes, and there's a risk you won't stop as quickly.
“Do not drive your vehicle on public roads with the doors removed as you will lose the protection they can provide. This procedure is furnished for use during off-road operation only.”
Motorists are required by law to pay the toll and any associated administration charges when they drive on a toll road. If you travel on a toll road without an e-tag, you have 3 days to arrange payment with the toll road provider.
Valid driving licences from most countries are legal in Mexico, including UK, EU, Canadian and US licenses. However, you may be required to purchase an International Driving Permit if your license is not printed in English. This will allow you to drive in Mexico for two year after it is issued.
Can a US citizen drive a car in Mexico?
Temporary import permits for cars registered in the United States are needed in order to drive beyond the border zones in Mexico. Permits are enforced when driving approximately 20 kilometers into Mexico. Permits are NOT needed in the Baja Peninsula. Banjercito is the government authority that issues vehicle permits.
Tourists and Temporary Residents are allowed to bring ONE car per person into Mexico, for their use as long as they keep that immigration status, including renewals. Hence, a tourist can bring a car into Mexico for 90 or 180 days (according to its immigration form).
Speed Limits
Urban areas: 37 mph (60 km/h) Rural areas: 55 mph (90 km/h) Motorways: 80mph (130km/h)
The speed limits in Italy are similar to other countries in Europe. Thus, the speed limits to follow are 50km/h (30 mph) in cities and towns, 90 km/h (55 mph) on single carriageways, 110 km/h (about 68 mph) on dual carriageways and 130 km/h (80 mph) on motorways. Posted signs inform you of the speed limit.
60 km/h (37 mph) for one lane per direction. 80 km/h (50 mph) for two or more lanes per direction.
The Autobahn: The Autobahn in Germany is perhaps the most famous high-speed road in the world. Some stretches have no speed limit at all, though drivers can be ticketed if they get into a crash while driving above the recommended top speed of 81 mph.
Most states don't explicitly allow speeding, regardless of the situation. However, some police officers exercise discretion, allowing drivers to exceed the speed limit by a few miles per hour when passing (under certain circumstances).
10 MPH to 14 MPH over the speed limit:
Usually ticketed for speeding. A driver could face a fine of $193 to $226 and three points on their license.
Know Before You Go
U.S. driver's licenses are valid in both Canada and Mexico. But many other countries do not recognize U.S. driver's licenses, according to the U.S. State Department. For those countries, you'll typically need an International Driving Permit.
Australia: Left-hand traffic
We drive on the left for one reason and one reason only: Britain told us to. No, really. As a British colony up until we became a federation in 1901, Australia readily adopted left-hand traffic, no doubt because it made both cultural and economic sense to do so.

Turkmenistan has the world's slowest internet.
When it comes to speed limits, Germany is an outlier. There are only about a dozen countries in the world that have not imposed speed limits on their roads. The only other place in Europe where road traffic is allowed to travel at unlimited speeds is the Isle of Man.
Currently, the maximum speed limit notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is 100 kmph on national highways and 120 kmph on expressways for cars.

There are actually speed limits at 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, and 20 mph. The 70 and 60 were introduced as a result of the oil crisis in 1974 and kept for road safety purposes afterwards.
The highest speed limit in the UK is 70mph, this applies to cars, motorcycles, car-derived vans and dual-purpose vehicles on motorways and dual carriageways. The same vehicles can drive at a maximum speed of 60mph on single carriageways.
The German government recommends a maximum speed of 130 kph, so about 80 mph per hour on autobahns, but drivers are free to go as fast as they want in de-restricted sections of the autobahns. Yes, as fast as you want! (Still.)
What is the speed limits in Scotland?
Scottish speed limits
Urban areas: general speed limit is 20 or 30 mph (48 km/hr) Single carriageways: 60 mph (97 km/hr) Motorways and dual carriageways: 70 mph (113 km/hr)
Typically vans travel 10mph less than cars on main roads but can travel 30mph in towns and cities which is usually the same as a car. On single carriageways vans are usually limited to 50mph and 60mph on dual carriageways. On motorways vans are typically allowed to go 70mph, the same as a car.
Portions of the Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming road networks have 80 mph (129 km/h) posted limits.
The general speed limit for motorways in EU Member States is mostly 120 or 130 km/h. Germany does not have a general speed limit for motorways, but a recommended speed of 130 km/h. The general speed limit for rural roads in EU Member States is mostly 80 or 90 km/h and for urban roads 50 km/h.
Highways England says that reducing the speed limit by 10mph lowers emissions by 17 percent and can accelerate efforts to bring affected areas within legal limits by one to two years. Nine UK motorways saw 60mph trial zones put in place last year and the M621 now has a permanent 50mph limit at junctions 6-7.
90 km/h (56 mph) on two-lane highways. 90–100 km/h (56–62 mph) on major highways inside cities. 100 km/h (62 mph) on major highways leaving or approaching towns or cities. 110 km/h (68 mph) on major highways.
Driving in Jamaica
The speed limit is 50kmph (30mph) in built-up areas and 80kmph (50mph) on highways. The most important thing to remember is that we drive on the left-hand side of the road.
AUSTIN, Texas — The new US 183 South toll road runs from U.S. 290 East to Texas 71 near the Austin airport. The 8-mile roadway opened in early 2021 but, more than a year later, it still has no posted speed limits.
